The Becoming ACEs Aware in California Training is a free, two-hour training to learn about Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs), toxic stress, screening, risk assessment, and evidence-based care to effectively intervene on toxic stress.
You may receive 2.0 Continuing Medical Education (CME) and 2.0 Maintenance of Certification (MOC) credits upon completion.
The training is available to any provider, but it is particularly geared towards primary care clinicians who serve Medi-Cal (California’s Medicaid program) beneficiaries.
Beginning July 1, 2020, Medi-Cal providers must attest to completing a certified core ACE training on the DHCS website to continue receiving payment for ACE screenings.
This is the first in a series of webinars that will explore the science of Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) and toxic stress, presented by California Surgeon General Dr. Nadine Burke Harris.
Educational Objectives:
After completing this webinar, the participant should be better able to:
- Discuss the science of how ACEs and toxic stress can affect our biology.
- Explain how ACE screening can be used to identify toxic stress risk and the potential health benefits of utilizing evidence-based strategies to regulate the toxic stress response.
- Recognize the importance of joining a trauma-informed network of care to provide and coordinate buffering resources across sectors
This activity is intended for physicians, physician assistants, registered nurses, psychologists, social workers and other healthcare providers engaged in the screening of patients with toxic stress related to Adverse Childhood Experiences.
- Explain the importance of addressing early childhood adversity and its impact on long-term health outcomes.
- Apply the science behind how ACEs and toxic stress can impact brain health and lead to increased risk of ACE-Associated Health Conditions.
- Implement trauma-informed clinical practice changes based on proven science-informed design principles of reducing sources of stress, strengthening core skills, and building responsible relationships.
